00 I’ve spent thousands of dollars on supplements over the years, and most of it it was wasted. So, let me save you the money I didn’t save. After 40, your body changes in a way that makes half of the stuff on the shelf useless. [music] And a few things go from nice to have to non-negotiable. This is a short list before I’d actually keep and the ones I tell you to stop buying today. And the one test that makes the whole guessing game go away. The first one is the one that most men my age skip, and it’s also the best value on the entire shelf. Number one, creatine. And most men my age skip it because of a rumor that was from 30 years ago. Back in the ’90s, it got branded the almost a steroid supplement. The one that was going to wreck your kidneys and dehydrate you into cramp. 30 years and hundreds of studies later in healthy people, none of that’s held up. It’s one of the most safest, most studied supplements on Earth. If you got an existing kidney disease, check with your doctor. But for a healthy man, this is about as proven as it gets. And it isn’t what you think it is. Creatine isn’t a muscle supplement. It’s an energy supplement. Muscle was just the first tissue they studied. Your brain runs on the same
01 Energy system, and the creatine tops up the reserve tank. And I’ll be straight with you about where it shows up because most people in my space, they’re not. It doesn’t do much when you’re young and rested. [music] It shows up under load. Hour six of a hard day, four hours of sleep, and a decision that still matters you’re too deep into it to notice. So, I’m not going to sell you a feeling. I never felt a lightning bolt. Nobody does. Anyone who tells you they felt their brain switch on is either selling something or feeling their pre-workout. What I can tell you is the honest version. I take it daily. I run it for years. Zero side effects. 5 to 10 g a day is a standard. Your brain actually saturates slower than your muscle. So, some people run higher, 10 g, but that hasn’t been proven to give you sharper thinking. So, don’t let anyone sell it to you in that fashion. The day I start selling you my feeling instead of the data is the day you should stop listening to me. [music] Number two, magnesium glycinate. That word glycinate is the whole point because the form is where most men get it wrong. The cheap one, magnesium oxide, is both poorly absorbed and the one most likely to send
02 You running into the bathroom. Citrate is absorbed fine, but it pulls water into your gut, and so it can loosen things up. Glycinate is well absorbed in general, so you can take a real dose without the side [music] effects. The glycine is attached to it, so it’s calming on its own. A lot of men over 40 are already low on magnesium, and stress, hard training, and a couple drinks is going to pull it down further. Take it before bed, when you actually want your system to downshift. You know the state I mean, tired but wired. Body’s done, but head won’t shut off. I’ll be honest about the evidence. The sleep benefit is real, but it’s modest, and it’s [music] the strongest in men who were low to begin with. So, it’s not a sleeping pill. It fills a gap most men have, and most men sleep a little better once it’s filled. Number three, whey protein. And this one matters more after 40, not less, because of something called anabolic resistance. In plain terms, aging muscle responds less to the same amount of protein. So, the bar goes up when most men intake drift down. Whey clears that bar because it’s one of the most leucine-rich proteins you can get. And leucine is the amino acid that flips the muscle-building switch, the exact
02 Switch that’s gone sluggish. The target is about a gram of protein per pound of your target body weight. Do the math for a second. If you’re aiming for 180 lb, that’s 180 g a day. A normal breakfast doesn’t get a busy man anywhere near that. That’s the entire job of the shake. It’s the easiest way to clear a bar that keeps getting higher. Real food first, whey to close the gap. This was never about a pump. Defending your muscle is how you defend your age. Number four is a maybe, and I’ll tell you why. It’s a multivitamin. It’s an insurance policy you take when you have no real information, a wide shallow net for the obvious gap. It’s not useless, but it’s a placeholder. Because a multivitamin is what you take when you’re guessing. The panel is how you stop guessing. Once you actually test, you don’t need a generic pill covering 20 things you’re already fine on. You need two or three things you’re actually low on. Even the research is unimpressed. A Johns Hopkins-led editorial in a major medical journal was titled, and I’m not making this stuff up, “Enough is enough. Stop wasting money on vitamin and mineral supplements.” After the study found multivitamins didn’t move the needle on
02 Heart disease, cancer, or memory. If you want the exact stack that’s right for a man over 40, the brands, the doses, link’s in the description. Now, the part that saves you the most money, the shelf to stop buying from. I’ll rank it by how much you’re actually wasting. Number one offender, testosterone boosters. If you’re worried that your T is low, get your blood test and talk to a doctor. A $60 bottle isn’t the answer. The herbal stuff, tribulus, the rest, doesn’t reliably move the testosterone in a man with normal levels. And this is the number that should end the conversation. When researchers looked at 50 of these booster products, only about a quarter had any data showing they raised testosterone at all. And about one in 10 had data showing they lowered it. You were as likely to hurt the thing you’re trying to fix. I bought one myself years ago. My energy it actually dipped. Took it for months. Then I went actual blood work and my free testosterone hadn’t moved. The bottle couldn’t survive the panel. BCAAs, if you’re eating enough protein and taking whey, you’re already getting this. You’re paying twice for the same thing. Green powders, $40 a tub
03 For a feeling of doing something healthy. I cut mine when I saw how little an actual dose was in a scoop. Collagen for your skin and your joints. It gets broken down in the digestion, so it doesn’t get delivered to your face and your knees the way the ads imply. There’s some evidence certain collagen peptides help, but not because you’re shipping collagen straight to where you caffeine with a markup. Real fat loss comes from the boring basics. A capsule, not going to touch that. Detox and cleanse product, you already own a liver and two kidneys. That’s your detox system, and it works [music] for free. Most of these are laxatives that drop water weight, which is why the guy thinks that they work. High-dose vitamin C for immunity, it’s a water soluble, so past the point you just pee it out. Back to the most expensive urine on the block. Instead, eat a bell pepper. And this sneaky one, biotin, the hair and nails pill. Beyond barely working, high-dose biotin can throw off your blood test, including the one that checks for heart attack and the one for your thyroid. So, the bandito pill can literally corrupt your blood work this whole model runs on. One I won’t fully trash, melatonin. It works, it’s just
04 Oversold. On average, it gets you sleep about 7 minutes faster, not hours, 7 minutes. Useful, small, just so you know what you’re buying. And the threat under all of this the industry isn’t regulated the way you think it is. So, what is actually printed on the side of the bottle? That might just be Pinocchio. So, you don’t actually know what you’re getting. So, look at that list again. Every product on it has one thing in common. It sells you certainty, but no information underneath it. It’s the exact opposite of testing. Every dollar on the shelf is a dollar spent guessing when a blood panel would have told you precisely what you actually need. That’s the whole model. You don’t add anything until you measure. For most men, the four I started with plus real food is the entire answer. And you just save yourself a cabinet full of bottles. For some men, the blood says something genuinely is off. And now you’re fixing a real problem instead of guessing at it. And if there’s something that needs a prescription, that’s a conversation with a physician, which is exactly why there’s a doctor in this model and not just a coach. Either way, you stop paying to guess. That’s the difference between doing supplements and actually knowing your own body. What to keep or drop. One test that ends the guessing.
05 That’s how you fix your medicine cabinet.
