From the cockpit to medicine

From the cockpit to medicine.

Dr. Monlux spent roughly a decade flying the Navy's F/A-18, logging more than 3,700 flight hours, with combat tours over Iraq and an instructor tour at VMFAT-101 in Miramar. He left the cockpit to start over in medicine, drawn to the same things that made him a good aviator: clear standards, honest measurement, and a debrief after every flight.

He is now board certified in family medicine and aerospace medicine, holds a master of public health, and founded Wingman Med, an aeromedical consulting firm in San Diego that helps pilots with their FAA medical certification.

Why he joined the program

Why he joined the program.

Dr. Monlux already knew the fundamentals. He is a physician. What he did not have was a system that made the daily work fit into a demanding life. He joined Executive Health Edge as a member, and about a year later, with the results to show for it, he came on as Medical Director.

The program didn't eliminate the work. It made the work executable.

What he does

  • Helps screen for safety before a member begins training.
  • Reviews the program's standards and protocols.

What he does not do
